About the University:
The University of Benghazi is a public university in Benghazi, Libya. Located in Benghazi, the second largest city in the country, it can be considered the oldest university in Libya. Its tradition dates back to the creation of the University of Libya in 1955, with its first campus in Benghazi. The University of Benghazi became autonomous in 1973 as a result of the split of the University of Libya, which would also give birth to the University of Tripoli. Between 1976 and 2011 it was known as Garyounis University. The university had over 76 thousand students in 2020.
