The University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Târgu Mureș is a public university in Târgu Mureș, Romania. The university was created in 1991 as University of Medicine and Pharmacy, on the basis of an institute that had operated since 1945 under Babes Bolyai University in Cluj. The current name is the result of the absorption in 2018 of Petru Maior University, which had also been created in 1991 . This merger could represent a milestone in the history of Romanian universities since the 1989 Revolution, which led to the fragmentation of Romanian universities into traditional, medical and technical universities, often based on the same city.
Another grounbreaking innovation is represented by the opening in 2019 of a campus in the German city of Hamburg to offer medical studies in English language. The university is marketed in Germany as Universität für Medizin, Pharmazie, Naturwissenschaften und Technik Neumarkt am Mieresch (UMFST Neumarkt a. M.), offering studies of human medicine with no admission restrictions based on school grades.
