Professor Iordan Gheorghe Bărbulescu is dean of the department of international relations and European studies of Scoala Nationala de Studii Politice si Administrative in Bucharest, as well as president of the senate of this university since 2012. He is also president of the Romanian Association for International Relations and European Studies. He has a PhD from the University of the Basque Country. He was a diplomat in Romania's ministry of foreign affairs between 1997 and 2003, having participated as a member of the joint committee on preparation for the negotiations of Romania's accession to the EU. For his contribution to the promotion of Romania's foreign policy, in 2002 professor Barbulescu was admitted to the National Order of Faithful Service with the rank of Knight. In 2007 he received the prize for the Personality of the Year for a European Romania and in 2016 he received the European Parliament's European Citizen's Prize. He currently teaches graduate courses in EU institutions, policy and policy-making.
