About the University:
Founded in 1999, the origins of this Polish state university date back to the creation of the Warsaw Theological Academy by the Communist government of Poland in 1954, after closing down the departments of theology of Warsaw and Jagiellonian universities. Initially opposed by the Catholic church, the institution was increasingly accepted since 1960 and received full recognition from the Holy See in 1989, after the fall of the Communist regime.
