The Jean Monnet module on The Government of the European Union was established in 2002 at Universidade da Coruña with a grant from the European Commission under the coordination of Dr. Diego Varela. It was aimed at students registered in any faculty or school of Universidade da Coruña, but it soon proved very popular among incoming Erasmus students because it was at the time the only course offered to them in English language at Universidade da Coruña. The module aimed to provide detailed and critical knowledge of how the EU works, as well as to develop analytical skills that could serve as a foundation for further studies and research or be transferred directly into non academic careers. It consisted of a total of 40 hours of teaching, divided into lectures and seminars, the letter being divided into small groups of up to 15 students in English and Spanish. Assessment was based on an exam at the end of the course.
